I have to say that I'm still having fun with Sticker Star. Dunno why some people hate it. I mean, though it's not as good as TTYD, it's still a fun game.

I agree. It's fun... and I enjoy it. My main problem is that is just isn't a paper mario game. Well, I mean it is, but it just doesn't feel like one.

It doesn't feel like the older Paper Mario games, but hey, it actually feels “Paper-y”, and so does Color Splash. Former Palper Mario games are good without doubt, but they actually felt less “Paper-y”, they just featured Paper-thin characters which can be a thin piece of plastic or whatever that is. I know, TTYD has Mario folds like paper, which I liked a lot, but I have to say that the game is still less Paper-y than Sticker Star.
So it had me think that, it was actually the former Paper Mario games that doesn't really feel like “Paper” Mario games, they're definitely better games than Sticker star but they lacked paper features. It's actually a good thing that Sticker star brings more paper features into the game IMO.

True, I'm just afraid that they came at the expense of what most people liked about the first few games.

Right. I'm actually hoping that they can make a Paper Mario game with the good old battle formula and leveling up system, together with the recent paper-ish features, and perhaps a little bit of side-scrolling actions of SPM. That would totally make a awesome game.

Yep, that would be cool, and while we can hope, the development team don't seem interested in pleasing us. Reading interviews with them can be quite depressing sometimes

The story is not as interesting and if I recall correctly, battles don't really mean anything anymore because they drastically changed the battle system and took away EXP points.

Stories aside, let's talk about the gameplay. The battle system can be a bit annoying at first, but it can eventually be got over. Actually now that I think about it, it's actually similar to Zelda, where you don't get EXP but you have “heart containers” all over the place. Zelda had mystery-solving, so does Sticker Star.
Also this Paper Mario game actually starts to make all those stuff “Paper-y”, while former Paper Mario games just feature paper-thin characters which can be a thin piece of plastic or anything like that. And it led to quite some interesting stuff happening in the game. I guess lots of people just got pissed off by the sudden change of the battle system and stuff and ignored the good aspects of the game.

Well for most folks, Paper Mario wasn't necessarily fun because it was "Paper" Mario, they enjoyed the better stories and character development that the mainstream Mario games didn't give for the sake of focusing on gameplay. Paper Mario is where they got their world-building, but Sticker Star took that away from there. I can understand why people would feel like others are overreacting when they criticize Sticker Star for that, but the fact of the matter is, a lot of people out there enjoy games almost solely for their stories, which is counterproductive for video GAMES I'll admit, but that's why Sonic has so many fans today, it's because of the lore that was put out, not necessarily just the super fast gameplay. Paper Mario was the same.

True, but I'm just saying it's also a good thing that Sticker Star brought more Paper features into the game.

Sure, character and stories development is one important aspect that attracts players, which is why I like TTYD so much. (Seriously TTYD is my fav PM game and it's largely because of it's storylone designs, especially in that Twilight Town chapter. The plot twist, as well as Vivian's character were developed so well that I'm so in love with it, no kidding.)

But talking about Sticker Star, we got a plain story. Yup, not as appealing. But we can enjoy it as a game. Some level designs in Sticker star actually amazes me as what they are, since none of those appeared in previous Paper Mario games. It's still a creative and fun game.

The fact is that, some of the people has a point in why this game is not as appealing as former PM games and I totally understand, WHILE some stupid people are just calling it a bad game without a second thought. Same thing happens in Sonic fanbase. Almost every Sonic game has people calling it a bad game and those people might not even have enough reasonable reasons. They pretty much just listened to what some critics said, and they did not even fully understand the critics' points before believing that the game is bad... Sigh, I guess you kmow what I mean, sometimes I can't describe them well with my not-so-good English tbh.
